colombia - la tierra querida

photo blatantly ripped off from here
.
I recently finished Killing Pablo about Pablo Escobar, the Colombian drug trafficking kingpin in the 80's and 90's.  Read it.  Es bueno.  The book will blow your mind.  Escobar had all of Colombia directly beneath his thumb.  Get your hands on a copy and give it a read this weekend.

For now, find yourself ten minutes to kill and wander on over to the Cycling Inquisition's piece of the world wide web of internets and grab a big chunk of Colombian cycling history and its relation with Escobar.

Klaus, the man behind Cycling Inquisition, is a native Colombian, an amazing writer, and expert on all things pertaining to el ciclismo Colombiano.  I'd love to shake his hand and tip back a large cool glass of agua panela with him.

jonnie, i dunno. killing pablo started out great, got better, and then the closer they got to catching/killing him, the drier and slower it got. by the end i didn't care so much anymore.

same writer, with a story that starts slow and amps it up until the very end? black hawk down.
